How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My illustrative practice is often frivolous and fanciful and done for the pure pleasure of creating. It usually involves animals and a joyful carnival atmosphere but can also take a more serious representational form. This body of work is mostly 2D mixed media but occasionally becomes 3D work.
My Fine Art practice is concerned with ideas around what it is to be human. It often reflects my personal experiences and tries to link those experiences with that of others. It is a way of creating meaning and investigating inter-human relationships. The mediums vary hugely and are led by the work and what it is that I am investigating. It is usually 3D in nature and can range through ceramics, found objects, aluminium and wood. The work is not led or constrained by the mediums themselves.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Whilst I paint and create for pleasure there is also a more serious side to my work. The investigation and research into human experience reflects my own experiences but also relates to others and allows for shared expression and recognition.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

As an artist I have two distinct fields of creative practice which are very different; Illustration and Fine Art.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

Mostly I work from my home studio on the Herefordshire Worcestershire borders but find ad hoc collaborative working and experimenting with other local artists and makers an inspiration and a welcome change to the singular studio practice. I occasionally give lectures and workshops but not on a regular basis.
