How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Painting is a very musical experience – it is impossible to separate sound from line or colour. I paint in a way that is very gestural (particularly in the early stages of a work), capturing a sense of spontaneity and performance.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

For me painting is a way of connecting with music in the way I did when I was a child – free from inhibition and 'rules'. Increasingly I am also inspired by poetry and the Herefordshire landscape.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Abstract artist

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I studied at the Royal Academy of Music, but my lifelong love of painting and drawing was inspired by my grandfather, Cecil Bailey who was, along with David Bomberg, a founding member of the Borough Group. I have taken part in several painting courses including Nicholas Wilton's Creative Visionary Programme.
