Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I produce hand-made, funky up-cycled clothing, accessories and soft furnishings. Using screen printing and recycled fabrics, I create colourful and creative designs, layering images and taking inspiration from nature and my regular visits toCornwall.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

The freedom to explore colour, pattern and form through drawing and printmaking , spontaneously reacting to the world around me.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a Screen Printer and Textile Artist.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

Originally trained in Textile design I spent my early years making and selling silk clothes and accessories in a variety of craft outlets throughout the country including Covent Garden Jubilee Market. Later I travelled to South East Asia and inspired by the fantastic batik cloth available, produced a range of children’s clothing. I balanced these creative ventures with teaching in both adult and mainstream education.  I am currently Head of Art at a local secondary school.
