How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I draw and paint from life; frequently outdoors. My strongest work is usually made from direct observation or en plein air. I have recently moved to Malvern from Hampshire. I love to immerse myself in environments that have a particular historical or geographical interest, or some type of uniqueness. I am mostly known for working in black ink, but I also very much enjoy working in colour on both paper and with oil paint. I am a representational artist but am concerned with the abstract elements of visual art, which means I am drawn to tonal and patterned things; enjoying the mark making opportunities and challenges these aspects can present. Structures attract me as subject matter; they bring form to my to compositions. I relish exploring scale in both, the formats I work in, and by attempting to capture a sense of scale and the impact of something’s size in my work. I love sharing my work and look forward to welcoming you to my studio.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a representational artist working within drawing and painting, but very much concerned with the more abstract visual elements of fine art.
I am also a qualified art teacher; holding a more recently gained Fine Art MA from Aberystwyth University and a long standing Bachelor of Education in Art degree from King Alfred's College in Winchester.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

Since completing my Fine Art MA I combine my personal practice with teaching adults. I have the advantage of both a teaching background (Art BEd Hons and lots of years of classroom practice) with the benefit of more recently having been on the receiving end of some excellent teaching during my MA. This has allowed me to evolve my understanding of the adult student. I have been able to reflect on what and how I learnt, what I felt was missing and wish I had been taught, and include these aspects and all combined a strong understanding of how to teach art. This enables me to break down artistic concepts, skills and knowledge into achievable steps for my learners, who I know, from having been there myself, wish to get as far as possible as quickly as possible.
ORGANISATIONS I TEACH FOR include...
Art Academy London, West Dean College of Arts and Conservation, The Schoolhouse for Art (Ireland), Art groups and Societies, Museums, Organisations and Galleries, Individuals, One-offs or regular sessions and all either in person or via Zoom.
I can deliver a variety of Workshops with a strength in traditional drawing and painting skills. I especially enjoy helping the beginner and intermediate level artist.
