How would you describe the work you do and why?

My work is influenced by the natural world; I get reeled in by the environment around me for inspiration - contrasts in light and shade especially. I love being outside and plein air painting is a great way of responding to the to the landscape - working quickly and making sketches in oils to sometimes work on in the studio. I work mainly in water mixable oil paint – but enjoy the immediacy of acrylics too. I enjoy working on commissions too, whether a beloved pet portrait or a landscape that has a special meaning, it's a great feeling when a finished piece is handed to the person and I see how much they love it!

For you what does being an artist mean?:
