I am drawn to shapes and decoration that work in the home and enhance whatever they hold –a mug of tea or a sprig of bud roses.
I work with white stoneware or porcelain clay, fire in both an electric and reduction kiln, and decorate with layered glazes and oxide brushwork. I love the serendipity of how a glaze reacts with curves of a pot, a carved detail or another glaze. It is an endless journey of discovery.
Every pot is individual and my hope is that every mug, vase or bowl carries with it the joy I experienced making it.
I am a potter who makes functional pieces in porcelain and stoneware under the name Cabalva Ceramics

I am lucky enough to pot in a Victorian walled kitchen garden near Hay-on-Wye from where I hold a variety pottery courses for all levels and ages with a community of talented potters.
My career started a long way from ceramics, first as a barrister, documentary film maker and now I manage my family's regenerative agriculture farm near Hay-on-Wye. Pottery sought me out in my forties and I was all too happy to be found. I have been taught by Jeremy Steward and Simon Hulbert and am constantly working to learn and develop my practice.
