How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My work is a reflection of the world I live in which is currently The Malvern Hills. You will find references to weather, rocks, trees, plant and animal life. I work using a variety of clays making small sculptures, bird-baths for the garden, vessels and wall-works. I find porcelain is most suitable for expressing the textures and colours of nature in an extraordinary way. It is a robust material after being kiln fired to over 1200 degrees and totally waterproof. The translucency of this material gives the impression that it is delicate. I love the dichotomy!

For you what does being an artist mean?:

The expression which clay, glass and drawing affords, gives an extra dimension to my existence. I enjoy the challenge using clay and glass to express ideas and fulfill briefs. Drawing and developing my water-colour technique can be part of the process necessary in the preparation and filtration of ideas before the making. I also like to play and experiment with materials. It’s all part of who I am.
