How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Tottie Aarvold is a MA Fine Art graduate from Hereford College of Arts. She is a fine art photographer and urban explorer who focuses on the abstract qualities of the world. She sees her images as ‘found paintings’, an organic fusing of both the human and natural world. She is drawn to textures, layers and entropy. Her images are of the abandoned, unvalued and unnoticed, the unusual and random in everyday life. She sees beauty in decay, the abstract mark making of the weathering of time.
Influenced by her years working as a psychotherapist, Tottie is interested in the hidden and revealed. She aims to convey pathos and loss with a sense of hope. She is drawn to the damaged and the strength of ‘still standing’ against the odds.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Art enables me to show how I see the World around me. Photography allows me to create something new from old, to make something damaged whole again, to make the invisible visible. When I am taking photographs I am consumed, I forget everything else. It helps my mental health.
