How would you describe the work you do and why?
My work is driven by a love of natural materials such as cotton, linen, wool, and especially leather, which I value for its versatility. I source surplus leather from the luxury fashion industry, saddlery offcuts, and soft Italian hides, often blending it with tweed and felt. I embrace natural imperfections to ensure every piece is truly one of a kind, with linings chosen to complement the leather’s beauty. I use high-quality hardware from brands like YKK and Opti, alongside distinctive buckles and fittings. All of my bags and accessories are handcrafted in my home studio in Bartestree, Hereford, using traditional leatherworking tools and an industrial sewing machine.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
From a young age, I’ve been passionate about art, craft, and creation, with a focus on textiles and multimedia. During my degree, I was inspired by Claes Oldenburg’s soft sculptures and his innovative use of fabric in three-dimensional design. Creating is not only a lifelong passion but also an important part of my wellbeing. I love making functional, beautiful pieces that are designed to last, offering an alternative to fast fashion. Each item I create is thoughtfully crafted with care, celebrating quality, individuality, and timeless design.
