How would you describe the work you do and why?

For me, all representations that include ‘light and shade’ tonality invoke space, a place, and illicit a response accordingly whereas; representations that utilise ‘flat’ colour illicit a response through the modulation between the colours or the degree of contrasting complexity. I am also conscious of ‘scale’ and often aim to leave out any reference to it, inviting ambiguity in the viewer and drawing a more individual personal response.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

For me being an artist is the opportunity to explore, play and express concepts to reflect emotional responses. My art is primarily created for myself and my own satisfaction, however, it is always a bonus when others respond similarly. I find sharing my work with others a fascinating process, often brokering an enjoyable conversation of shared analysis and comparison.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Abstract Painter & Artist

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

My style of painting often utilises a process that explores random expressive mark making on a blank canvass, informed by a concept or emotion, inviting interpretation, generating creative judgements and iteratively manipulating, expressing responses until the ‘dance’ is done.
My daily art practice is generally private, however, after many enquiries and requests for workshops on exploration of my/our techniques and processes we [as a studio] are considering formulating in-person workshops. Please feel free to let us know if you visit during h.Art or contact us if you want to register your interest for workshops.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

BSc. [Hons], B.Arch [WSA]
Following 25+ years in Architectural Education and practice I now practice and explore my art full-time.
I have no formal art training or qualifications and feel unencumbered and free from over intellectualised twaddle around the subject, preferring just to ‘play’, learning through explorative play and the guidance of skilled and established contemporaries.
