Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?

I have always had a keen interest in embroidery from as early as school days when needlework was one of my favourite subjects. I have always had sewing projects on the go, several years ago I joined a half day course on freehand machine embroidery which set me on the course I follow today. My embroidery incorporates appliqué techniques and paint which bring the pieces to life. My designs are mostly inspired by nature.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

This type of embroidery gives me the freedom to manipulate the fabric, cotton and paint until I achieve the desired result. I love the unpredictability of a piece of work right to the very end.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am first and foremost a freehand machine embroiderer but have recently developed a love of needle felting.
