How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I describe by work as ‘Rustic’. I love repurposing cast-off stone, getting a feel of what would like to be created with each piece. My style is influenced by Celtic art symbology and its intricate knots and crosses. There is something magical about Celtic design that evokes a world of spiritual connection, community and natural living.

I've created names with interlocking letters on various shaped stone and use multiple shaped stones to build water features that are solar powered and can be placed anywhere. I'm experimenting withing features incorporating steel giving the sculpture an evolving experience to the viewer.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I love seeing whats possible with stone and creating things I love and have a beauty and meaning. Its fab when others also get a connection with my creations and see something too, whatever that may be. We all see things differently and to be able to create with stone and wood gives me the opportunity to play with my inner creative, and share it with the world.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Roy Martin - Rustic Stone & Wood. I am an evolving stone carver/sculptor using repurposed, cast off stone, recycled wooden pallets and metal with a particularly focus on creating unique water sculpture features.
