How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I describe by work as ‘Rustic’. I love repurposing the broken stone and getting a feel of what would like to be created with each piece. My style is influenced by Celtic art symbology and its intricate knots and crosses. There is something magical about Celtic design that evokes a world of spiritual connection, community, and nature.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I find my approach is constantly evolving and I’m integrating scrap metal and gold finishes. The metal creates a constant evolving sculpture as it slowly rusts through the flowing water or in the outside elements.

Being able to create with stone and explore what’s possible with each is like an adventure. I play with ideas then away I go on the journey. Like all adventures they can have diversions and changes, but we keep going until we reach an end point. I’m constantly learning and visioning with ideas and love bring both together to see what I can create.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Roy Martin - Rustic Stoneman. I’m an evolving stone sculptor/carver and use discarded stone and recycle it to create unique relief carved pieces or sculptures. My work has evolved in to crating bespoke water features that are solar powered giving them the freedom to be located anywhere in the landscape.
