Artwork for Marie-Therese King
I create designs from my drawings which I translate into batik an ancient Indonesian art form involving layering wax and dye on cotton. I work to commission in batik and also for architectural sandblasted glass.
My starting point always comes from careful observation and drawing. I'm always trying to lighten my carbon footprint whilst wanting to share my love of the wildlife around us. You will find coastal birds, garden birds, butterflies, wild flowers and more in my work, I have an eye for detail and a love of colour and composition .
It's a vocation and something I'm very grateful for, being able to make a living with my creative skills. I'm passionate about teaching and run two holidays per year in Portugal.
I'm a visual artist inspired by the natural world, with a passion for British birds, bees and butterflies. Having taken a 3 year break from batik I now have a fume free way of working with this magical medium of layering wax and dyes on cotton. I also work with cyanotype . My designs are sold as originals and prints on greeting cards, lampshades and giclee prints.
I'm a full time artist, this year focusing on a new body of batik work celebrating our beautiful natural world.
BA tons Degrees in multi disciplinary design.
