Marie-Therese King

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Batik artist, textile designer

I design and create wax resist paintings on fine cotton using the ancient Indonesian artform Batik. I have a passion for and am inspired by our natural world. We have so much technology in our lives that many of us forget to go outside and watch the sunrise, listen to the dawn chorus or watch the bumble bees do what they do. Being in nature makes us appreciate the beautiful delicate things that nature has in abundance and my work is a celebration of that. My batik paintings are all worked up from drawings of the wildlife around me. I make them into prints, cards and lampshades.
