How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Artist / Printmaker

I make Collagraphs. These are carefully constructed intaglio plates, made with a mounting card base, then built up in layers of various materials. The plates are fragile and do not last long under the pressure of the printing press. I like to develop the shapes and patterns which are found in all of nature and have a particular fondness for trees. The process of plate-making is ideal for the way I like to work; developing shapes and patterns and textures. Then, after working for many weeks on the plate, there is the wonderful element of surprise when you peel back the first print.

I do all my printing in black. Once dry, I re-stretch the prints and paint them individually.
