Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Arts and crafts, creative design

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I have always been fascinated by materials of every kind and creating something out of raw materials is particularly thrilling. My watercolour portraits are not painted in a typical water colour style - I prefer to make my own rules when it comes to using materials. In my leather work I like to create my own design to best suit the purpose of the item and to hone the design to its most simple form so that the beauty of the leather and craftsmanship stands out. I hand stitch every part - no machines - just old fashioned hand tools.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Water colour and clay sculpture portrait artist, leather and wool crafter.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I practice arts and crafts purely as a hobby for my own satisfaction.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I did art A level at school and then art and design as my main subject in further education. I took up painting again after I finished my teaching career. Over the years I have attended a variety of craft workshops to learn new skills and inspire new creations.
