Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I work in textiles and mixed media, using recycled and found materials. My background as a typographic graphic designer influences my focus on abstract composition and aesthetic balance. My inspiration is often the feel, texture and colour of the materials I source or find, the first scrap leading forward to a grid based composition that may or may not link to a recognisable theme.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Having spent more than 30 years as a practicing graphic designer and over 15 years as an art and design tutor at Stourbridge Art College, creativity has been central to my life. On 'retirement', I realised I could no more give up creative practice than give up breathing.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I have only been 'retired' for a few months and in that time I have been lucky enough to exhibit on 3 occasions and set up a Workshop practice, sharing my skills, knowledge and enthusiasm.
