Men knew what work the heart did
Details
The work I produce is a mix of non-representational abstracts, usually in strong colour combinations, supplemented by elements of line drawn representational forms from nature. I love to experiment with a range of materials (acrylic paints, inks, oil pastels, collage) and substrates, including canvas, paper and boards. I work intuitively in response to the worlds I inhabit; those of work, family, place, my personal history and the natural environment.
My artistic endeavours enable me to visually express complex emotions I cannot find verbal language for. My end product is a translation of observed imagery, emotion and physical activity.
I describe myself as a multi media artist/painter, using predominantly acrylic paint, with elements of collage, print and supplementary materials to express a personal response to the world around me.
I prefer to work outdoors, taking observations from nature, and additionally I have a daily writing and sketchbook practice.
I run creative expression workshops sporadically throughout the year, and am currently seeking venues to further this offe.
I attended art college many years ago, and have worked in the NHS since 1992. I started started painting seriously again during the initial lockdown of 2020, and in 2023 commences a years sabbatical to explore my creativity further.
