Artwork for Jan Austin
The work I produce is a mix of non-representational abstracts, usually in strong colour combinations, supplemented by elements of line drawn representational forms from nature. I love to experiment with a range of materials (acrylic paints, inks, oil pastels, collage) and substrates, including canvas, paper and boards. I work intuitively in response to the worlds I inhabit; those of work, family, place, my personal history and the natural environment.
My artistic endeavours enable me to visually express complex emotions that I cannot find verbal language for. Painting has been an amazing solace for me in the context of the global coronavirus pandemic, my artistic pursuits have given me the freedom to explore new territory when the world wasn’t allowed.
I describe myself as a multi media artist/painter, using predominantly acrylic paint, with elements of collage and supplementary materials to express a personal response to the world around me.
I prefer to work outdoors and convert my garden to a studio space as the weather allows, and also work from a small converted garden shed! Following feedback from last years event, my intention is to start running exploratory ‘what if’ workshops later this year - watch this space!,
I attended art college many years ago, but have worked in the NHS since 1992. Throughout my life I have drawn and undertaken creative workshops, started painting seriously again during the initial lockdown of 2020.
I showed my work for the first time at h.art 2021, and I have taken part in a joint exhibition at The Courtyard, Hereford, with HACS.
