How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I uae my love of clay to make beautiful dishes, posts, bases and other items. Inspired by nature I incorporate plants and seed heads into my pieces, either through impressing them into wet clay or by using moulding techniques.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

It means producing work that not only gives me pleasure, but hopefully others as well. Incorporating images from nature allows me to preserver natural images as they emerge fleetingly within the plant's cycle of reproduction. The shapes nature produces are beautiful and I want to be able to reproduce some of that magic.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Steph's Hand Made Ceramics.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

My interest in ceramics came from training as a ceramic restorer. I broadened my knowledge through classes in pottery and decorative finishes. For a few years I ran a design company mainly specialising in mirrors and decorative household items. Harrods and Jane Churchill where amongst my customers. I also ran classes in plaster casting, gilding and paint finished and am the author of the book Creative Plasterwork.
