Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Currently I am focussing on printmaking, I work in a spontaneous way, responding directly to the landscape around me; a draw first think later approach. Back in the studio my sketches are the starting point. I allow myself to be led by the printmaking process and my imagination, until I create a mood and atmosphere that I am happy with. I enjoy never quite knowing how it will come out of the press and make the most of the accidental element of printmaking. Since I have moved from Cornwall, I have been exploring my new surroundings for subject matter here in Herefordshire.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

For me, being an artist is about sharing and communicating a response to my surroundings. Creating a mood, a feeling about a place and, hopefully, connecting with others.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a printmaker and painter, specialising in landscape.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I work in my own home studio, but I have also been an active member of the art community in Cornwall and now I'm making connections here in Herefordshire. I have run workshops as well as selling work in local art galleries. I was also a member of a collective of artists sharing the running of a small gallery in Penryn. Over the last couple of years, since moving to Herefordshire, I have found printmaking groups to join in Malvern and Stroud as well as taking part in local exhibitions and events.
