How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My oil painting has largely been inspired by the Herefordshire/Powys countryside in which I live, and in particular the wonderful light that falls through trees at different times of the year. Lately I have been experimenting with the portrayal of moonlight through trees and over towns and buildings.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Practising art has not only helped me recuperate from a serious illness, but has also provided me with a sense of purpose following my retirement from teaching. It makes me look at the wonderful surroundings in which we live in a new light, and provides me with immense pleasure. Learning new skills and new ways of painting has been a real bonus and a challenge.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Formerly a botanical artist in watercolour, I now paint landscape and still life in oils.
