As a retired vet, my understanding of animals allows me to add that something extra to my artwork. Modern pastels and pastel pencils allow for more detailed artworks with increased depth and vibrancy. I make full use of this to create a style that is unique to me. Today commission work occupies much of my time, with subjects ranging from portraits and pet portraits, to landscapes, and vintage and racing cars. I like to give each piece a three-dimensional effect and detail is of importance to me - each 12in by 16in artwork takes me 25 to 30 hours to complete.
Being an artist gives me the opportunity to relax, while giving expression to creativity.
I am a retired veterinarian turned pastel artist.
I have done Powerpoint presentations to Art clubs in the past, but my style of detailed and time consuming art does not lend itself to workshops or teaching.
I completed A level at 16 years old, before going on the complete at veterinary science degree. When I retired in 1999 I returned to my first love, building on my basic knowledge with experimentation, as well as books on pastel art. I have not done any formal art training but I feel that lack of training allows for a more freeform approach to my detailed pastel art.
I have exhibited during H-art week in 2021 ( at my home in Wigmore) in 2022 ( at Kingsland Church and at Grange Court in Leominster) and 2023 (at Kingsland Church and at The Old Picture House in Kington. I have had offers to exhibit at the Timothy Hawkins Gallery in Hereford and at the Lion Gallery ( now operating the Oxenham Art ) but have yet to have time to take them up.
I currently have no outlets stocking my art due to the amount of commission work I am involved with.
