How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I create artworks and products using pressed flowers and gold leaf. Alongside floral preservation I create unique works reflecting the Herefordshire countryside. All of the flowers I use I either grow or are pick locally advocating a grown not flown mentality as well as creating sustainable floral works. As well as the pressed flower frames I use my loved of traditional crafts such as gilding, bookbinding and calligraphy to create my products.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist is creativity, respect for nature and traditional crafts and a mindful practice for me. My practice has evolved from not just the skills I’ve learnt but the environment I live in. But I also get huge joy creating unique and special pieces for my clients. When preserving other peoples flowers I feel honoured to create these keepsakes that represent such memorable days and I try to reflect them in the works. I love to use what is natural around me and combine this with my love of traditional crafts.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a botanical artist creating pressed herbarium and gold leaf products and floral preservation.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

My practice includes workshops in gilding (glass and oil based gilding), bookbinding and modern calligraphy.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I have an MA from London College of Communication (University of Arts London). I also worked in a traditional and digital print studio for years where the director become a mentor of mine and introduced me to traditional arts such as letterpress printing. I was trained in gilding and signwriting by an incredible sign writer and took these skills to develop and using gold leaf within my work.
