How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I have been working with metal for over twenty years, making functional and decorative items, using traditional methods. Predominantly I work with mild steel, forged, fabricated and welded. I also make repousse pieces in copper and incorporate them with forged steel.

I have recently started to concentrate on more sculptural forms, particularly animals. I build up a series of templates from sketches, to cut out of mild steel. These are then beaten and shaped, forged and welded.

I love the process of developing the three dimensional piece that I have in my mind onto the workbench. Taking flat lifeless steel and creating something tactile, capturing the essence of the creature; the curve of a beak, the sweep of a wing, a craggy claw.
