How would you describe the work you do and why?
I enjoy the making and teaching of this slow craft as a way of reconnecting people with crafting with sustainable and homegrown materials whilst talking about our lives and connecting with each other. Beautiful things get made and new skills get learnt. I love weaving functional and beautiful things for people, homes and gardens.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
Moving as one with the materials I use and flexing the sticks to create interesting forms and vessels.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
I set up Wyldwood Willow in 2000 as an answer to my perpetual questions about and dislike of single use plastics in our environment. Today I make baskets, coffins and sculptures from a wide range of natural materials I harvest myself from various different withy beds around the country. Many of which are used as part of ecological WET Systems to filter and purify water in the landscape.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
I teach a wide range of workshops locally and across the South of England.
