Skirrid Studio & Gallery

Art and printmaking studio and gallery room. Original prints and paintings. Workshop bookings.

Helen's studio and home gallery in Longtown, near the Welsh border, is open year round for private tuition and visits to view her paintings and original prints. The venue is located in the stunning Olchon Valley, on the border with South Wales and you can combine your visit with sight seeing. Visit the Norman Castle or take an invigorating walk up the Cat's Back.

When a landscape becomes meaningful to you, it gets under your skin to create vivid memories. Helen's paintings and prints capture that…
There’s a kind of wild light on the edge of the Brecon Beacons – you see *all* the weather and the seasons feel extreme. This tends to work on creativity in an inescapable way. On the one hand, Helen is drawn to painting the big vistas and imposing mountain views of the Brecon Beacons: on the other, she photographs, draws and etches the intimacy of enclosed woodlands and hedgerow spaces. In her dual practice, she searches out both the big vista beyond as well as the narrow spaces between.

Helen is an art tutor. No experience of drawing or printmaking required. You will be supported to make your own memorable images whatever your ability.

Finally, Helen co-curates the touring arts exhibition, Mappa Marches, funded by the Arts Council and open across Herefordshire in 2022.
