Info
How do you describe your Gallery?:
A new community craft centre with a wonderful display of high quality handmade arts and crafts on show. A welcoming place to meet, craft, chat and learn new skills with plenty of good tea, coffee and cake.
Do you specialise in any particular artform or craft?:
A broad range of arts and crafts.
What's important to you when you choose whose work to exhibit and sell?:
All work must be original and entirely hand crafted showing a high level of skill. We look for a broad range of work in a variety of mediums.
What's coming up this year?:
We open our doors as a gallery on 23rd March 2024 with an opening event. Our inaugural exhibition will be Wedding Dresses with a focus on why the designs were chosen, how they were made and interesting personal stories. There has been a very good level of community engagement with a wide range of eras and styles of dress offered for loan.
We have been running a wide range of craft courses using hired venues within the village over the last 2 years and now that we have our own premises will be offering more opportunities for people to learn new skills. We have a programme of courses booked in the coming months and will be updating and adding to these.
Members exhibiting their work in the gallery also have the opportunity of spending time as Artist in Residence and setting up their workshop space within the craft centre to showcase their working methods and encourage community engagement. Members are also able offer their skills to tutor courses at the craft centre.
Your notable exhibitions in the last few years:
We have not yet opened our doors but had been running the very successful Ewyas Harold Festival of Arts biannually prior to Covid and since then have reduced the festival to the very popular Ewyas Harold Scarecrow Trail. This has had a very high level of community engagement with very imaginative scarecrows made by people of all ages. We plan to reinstate the Festival of Arts in 2025 to include a wide range of events over the `May Bank Holiday weekend, this will include performance and music as well as arts and crafts. We took part in h.Art in 2021 as Arts and Crafts Community Centre which is the name of the charity that runs Ewyas Harold Craft Centre.
