Hawthorn Gallery
Artwork for Hawthorn Gallery
Info
How would you describe your Gallery?:
Hawthorn Gallery is located opposite the castle in Hay-on-Wye. It began as the studio and exhibition space of Welsh artist Barry Martin-Andrews, whose work is inspired by the wild Welsh landscape Over time, Hawthorn has grown into a gallery showing work by artists and makers from Wales and across the UK. Alongside Barry’s work, you’ll find a changing mix of ceramics, glass, jewellery and woodturning, all chosen for their quality, character and individuality.
Do you specialise in any particular artform or craft?:
We show a wide selection of Barry Martin-Andrews atmospheric artwork, from original paintings and fine art prints to sketches and art cards. The gallery also showcases a curated selection of artists and makers. We specialise in pottery—from stoneware to porcelain, with a special love for raku—jewellery crafted from dichroic glass, titanium, niobium, silver, gold and enamel, and woodturning that blends traditional skill with contemporary design.
What's important to you when you choose whose work to exhibit and sell?:
Originality, quality and beauty
What's coming up this year?:
Traditionally, Hawthorn has focused on Barry Martin-Andrews artwork, but we’re excited to expand. We plan to join the Own Art scheme and introduce a guest wall, offering other painters and printmakers the chance to exhibit on a rolling programme.
