How would you describe the work you do and why?
I love nature and the Herefordshire landscape. I find myself compelled to observe it more deeply and respond to it by creating a piece of art that the viewer can enjoy and hopefully feel the radiance of the place itself and my appreciation of it.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
Minor White the American photographer says it well: "When you approach something to photograph it, first be still with yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence. Then don't leave until you have captured its essence." Whether photography or painting, I agree with his philosophy touching on being mindful, patient and spiritual. It's about connecting more deeply with the world around us.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
Painter working primarily with oil.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
I have sketched, painted, performed and written since a child. I am proud to have carved out the freedom to continue to do these things each day. As a painter, I am mostly self taught however I have recently received invaluable tutelage with regards to light and colour from renowned painter Alex Brown, who works out of Court Robert, Raglan.
