How would you describe the work you do and why?
Functional stoneware pottery for everyday use that is both aesthetically pleasing, affordable and useable.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
Being an artist for me is taking a medium that is raw in nature and turning it into something that is both beautiful and functional through a set of processes that commands patience. It affords me the ability to take myself to a happy place and put a part of me into my work that hopefully will give the end user pleasure and the ability to enjoy the form for its use and aesthetics, whether it be a mug, a bowl or a flower vase.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
Local stoneware functional potter using clay on the wheel and local inclusions of sand from the Garron brook.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
I am a sole potter working from my studio in Llangarron producing functional mid and high fire stoneware in an electric and gas kiln. I have recently started offering beginners wheel throwing experiences and hope to expand on this in the near future as my experience and ability allows.
CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:
I am a self taught potter after having undertaken a wheel throwing experience myself. I have enrolled on some further advanced pottery courses in the local area and am a member of the Craft Potters Association and the South Wales Potters.
Exhibitions in the last 3 years:
I have yet to exhibit but will be looking to explore this avenue in the near future.
Your gallery outlets/stockists:
I have a small gallery next to my studio in Llangarron and am currently working on my website to offer seasonal sales. I also look to take part in local Craft Fayres.
