How would you describe the work you do and why?
I am excited by the opportunity to experiment and develop techniques and ideas, while making clay objects that are both useful and beautiful and which add enjoyment to peoples' lives.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
I have been making stoneware pots for over 50 years and am still enjoying creating with clay. I work mainly on the potters wheel, throwing and turning. I am interested in altering the thrown shapes and adding textures and handles.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
My workshop, where I can receive visitors, is under and next to my home in Ledbury. The workshop includes an old brick tunnel used in the past for storing cider. I do a little teaching at my workshop, and also some teaching at a summer school; hand-building with clay.
CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:
I have a Diploma in Art & Design and an Art Teachers Certificate; and I have both practiced and taught pottery for over 50 years. I am a member of the Hereford Craft Guild, and this is my fifth year taking part in h.Art.
Exhibitions in the last 3 years:
h-Art at my workshop, with Herefordshire Guild at Malvern RHS spring and autumn shows, at the Fold monthly craft market in Bransford and under the Ledbury Market House, roughly once a month.
Your gallery outlets/stockists:
I think it is important for people to touch and feel the pots before making decisions, so I prefer to sell directly; at exhibitions and stalls and to visitors at my workshop. Visitors are always welcome to visit my workshop by arrangement. I also take commissions.
