How would you describe the work you do and why?

I indulge in a variety of relief printmaking and collages from prints.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I enjoy the whole process of print-making; the back-to-front thinking through of the image design, the feel and sound of gouges cutting through plywood, the tacky sound and smell of the inks, the unpredictability of colour overlaying, the re-use of reject prints to create other images and objects...

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I design and print slowly, as ideas emerge and time allows. No teaching, no workshops, but I love to explain to visitors just how I have made prints, be they woodcuts, monoprints, cyanothypes, woven collages or others.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I have made prints, sketches and drawings since I was a child, encouraged by my artist/teacher mother, and architect father. I have spent my career as a landscape architect, preparing all designs and technical drawings by hand, plus being commissioned to produce detailed illustrations for interpretation boards and leaflets for a variety of public bodies.
My print-making is just one strand of my artistic outlet.
