How would you describe the work you do and why?

I work in egg tempera and am greatly inspired by antique Delft tiles and ceramics, having been fascinated by them since childhood. I work with raw pigments and fresh egg yolk, using a process of paint making stretching back thousand of years and I enjoy this continuity with slowly made, historical methods. Often depicting mythological, whimsical and domestic creatures, the inspiration for my work is nevertheless drawn from the natural world around me.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am an artist inspired by nature and historical methods and materials.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I work from my studio most days and run occasional egg tempera workshops for small groups.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I trained as a freelance artist and illustrator, working in the London studios of Saatchi and Saatchi and later spent several years living in Calabria in southern Italy, studying antique maiolica ceramics.
