Details
How would you describe the work you do and why?
I have a long held sketchbook habit where I capture snippets of life and nature in daily drawings. From these I’ve been making scenes with ‘Mouse’ as a character which also enables me to bring humour into my work which I enjoy.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
Sharing the way I see the world with others. Visually exploring ideas and seeing how these can be shared and hopefully bringing joy to others through this.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
I’m an illustrator with a love of the outdoors. I really enjoy noticing details in things - changing seasons, species coming into flower as well as the seemingly mundane details of the everyday. Recently I’ve been sharing this via an illustrated character - Mouse.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
I work from my studio in Brampton Bryan where I also run workshops for beginners - in modern calligraphy, drawing and watercolour. I also run workshops elsewhere and am part of the 8 members of The Artists’ Gallery - a cooperative gallery at Bromfield, just outside Ludlow.
CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:
GCSE and A’ Level art led to an Art Foundation at Hereford College. I’ve done a daily drawing every day since 2008 and have sketchbooks to look through at the studio.
