Details
I'm primarily an abstract artist and prefer working on canvas. However, I also do figurative work in pastels, inks and work digitally, too.
I have only recently returned to the Herefordshire and Welsh Borders Abstract Edge art group, following a long break from abstract art. Real life just got in the way. Previous exhibitions have included solo and group shows at the Hive in Shrewsbury, Ludlow Assembly Rooms and The Bond in Birmingham. Inspiration for my work also comes from my professional background in graphic design - and, strangely, from years spent in performance and production of alternative rock music as a percussionist. Living out in the Shropshire hills also offers plenty of appreciation of natural forms to inform and inspire.
My abstract paintings never really follow any vaguely predetermined ideas. Instead, they grow and evolve as a series of ‘happy accidents’. Recurring themes often include geometry and symmetry. This is probably something to do with percussive rhythm.
A lovely retreat and creative distraction from the real world. I hope those viewing my work experience a similar moments from it.
Spring Exhibition 2023 at Ludlow Assembly Rooms with Abstract Edge
I will be exhibiting at h.Art 2023 with Abstract Edge. Keep an eye out for any announcements.
I studied in Leamington Spa and Derbyshire in the late 70s and early 80s, where a wild, rule breaking punk attitude was encouraged. This continues to seep through into my abstract paintings today.
