How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I make things out of wood, usually furniture. All my work is bespoke.
For years I have made a point of versatility. This exhibition has a new focus - carving. It is my intention to concentrate on what I do best, which is also what I most enjoy.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Both designing and making things is richly satisfying. As is delivering finished pieces to customers. However the greatest satisfaction is simply this - the knowledge of a job well done. In this respect I don't think being an artist differs from any other work. I've had a variety of jobs over the years, and I feel that now I'm doing what I do best. Could one ask for more of one's work?

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Nick Clarke, Cabinet Maker & Designer

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I work with my customers to develop designs which will fulfil their practical requirements with - I hope - elegance and beauty. The natural beauty of wood married to designs which draw their inspiration from a wide range of sources: arts and crafts; gothic architecture; modern simplicity of form; nature.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I am self taught.

Your gallery outlets/stockists:

None - I work to commission.
