I paint images that conjure up a personal sense of familiarity in an effort to connect myself to a former life. In my research, I explore found references from the internet or other publications as well as snapshots from movies, film stills; anything that might jog a memory or stir some nostalgic emotion. I then try to incorporate the references into an interesting compostion. For me the goal is to create something honest, without being too literal or cliche.
I am interested in the idea of the archetype and how they relate to identity.
Colour also plays a large part in my artistic process. I feel like the subjective nature of colour can be very powerful element not only in expression but in the reccolection of past experiences.
For me an artist strives to connect to their emotions by using specific sets of tools, materials and techniques as well as their own intutition to communicate their concept or emotion to an audience. An artist is an explorer of the concious and subconcious.
I'm a painter and my pictures are directly related to my life experience, typically from my past. Memories, whether whole or mere fragments, are traversed in my mind and worked-out in the studio. I work mostly in oil and acrylic on a variety of surfaces; canvas, panels and paper.
My practice includes painting at home and in a studio space.
