My work is figurative yet I rely heavily on the use of photo references from my own personal history as well as historical imagery of the 20th century. My intention is to reconnect with the familiar people, places and images from my past through my painting process. I also like to incorporate landscapes as they play an important role in addressing my feelings of nostalgia and displacement.
I am inspired by late 19th century and 20th century painting. I take influence from artistic movements such as post-impressionism, expressionism and fauvism.
For me an artist strives to connect to their emotions by using specific sets of tools, materials and techniques as well as their own instincts to communicate their concept or emotion to an audience.
I refer to myself as a painter and I paint pictures that are directly related to my life experience and the people and places in it. I work mostly in acrylic and oil on a variety of surfaces; canvas, panels and paper.
My practice includes painting in my home and in a studio space.
