Details
‘I draw inspiration from my love of song writing, poetry, and surface pattern, the re-telling of stories weaving narratives through mixed media book form, moving image song drawings and ceramic sculptures. At the core of these multi mediums is a love of line: drawing, and this can be seen through the expressive surface pattern & sgraffito techniques that resonate across the works, be it in stitch, pencil, print or scratched in line filled with underglaze, these techniques, and the excitement of re-telling stories, is what inspires me and drives me to make and share my skills and work’.
‘These works are the indexical outcomes of the processes representing my creative practice journey through song craft, stitch, and ceramics. The connections I make between narratives and storytelling in physical form, help me make sense of my own life story, heal, and find creative expression. These works explore the relationship between my making and healing. Through crafting stories making meaning happens at every turn, from process to outcome, a succession of cascading moments, each entirely whole’.
I am an Artist/Maker
I believe shared arts experiences make a real and lasting difference, not only for those who are involved in sharing the making, but also in the wider community. I am passionate about arts education and have taught courses in drawing, painting, colour mixing, watercolours & acrylics across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Powys since 2019. My own practice informs my teaching, it is process led, the connection between making and healing, group practice and community are important aspects of the workshops I run and it is my hope that students will feel empowered by the work they create, singularly and together.
Recently graduated from HCA she gained her master’s degree with distinction for Contemporary Crafts and was awarded the Courtyard Creative Award 2022 for her master’s project works Open Book. As a songwriter she signed to Warner Chappell’s. A passionate arts educator she has taught internationally, leading an acclaimed arts programme in Banda Ache, Sumatra, following the Tsunami in 2007.
