How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I’m interested in finding magic in the mundane and the idea of liminality - the state of existing between worlds. I’m hugely influenced by music, and am a music-colour/visual synesthete. I find as much inspiration in the sun soaked streets of Valletta as I do on the banks of the Usk in my hometown of Abergavenny. I want my work to allow people to escape for a moment - something that I think was needed especially over the last year! My photos let me revisit the places I’ve been and even visit places I’ve never been and my only goal is for them to spark a moment of joy in others.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

As a “multi-hyphenate” I’ve often felt ‘liminal’ myself - as if I don’t belong to any one career “world” - but lately I’ve realised how I don’t actually have to define myself as any one thing, and that having many strings to my bow, as it were, is a strength in itself, and when I allow my worlds to collide I am not limited by self or externally imposed boundaries.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I’m a multi-hyphenate creative & photographer.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I’ve been practicing photography since the age of about 15 and professionally since I was in university - but aside from that I’m a performer, singer and songwriter-producer, and I DJ regularly. I have been lucky to have travelled to as many places as I have in my life, and I have had a camera in hand for most of these journeys! I also have worked professionally for many years as a videographer, so moving images and film often impact my ideas and creative direction.
For many years I worked as an event photographer and videographer to support myself as a performer, and I recently began producing music. The album artwork for my debut EP “1:11” was a self portrait out of necessity thanks to Covid lockdown measures!
