How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I work in whichever media I am drawn to at any given time, and frequently mix them together (perhaps a knock on effect from when I was an art student on a budget and just had to use what was available?). My current work is predominantly in oils & cold wax but I frequently use watercolour, inks & pastels if I am wanting to create a different feel.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

It is an immense privilege to be able to work as an artist and hopefully the pieces that people buy or enjoy looking at from me evoke a special memory or feeling. It means a constant search for inspiration, often to the frustration of my nearest and dearest when we are trying to walk somewhere together! I love helping others develop their artistic expression and talent and get as much joy from that as I do from painting myself.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Splitting my time between the Malvern Hills and the Ceredigion coast provides endless inspiration for my work.
Most of my paintings originate from sketches & notes made on my daily walks. I work in quite an impressionistic way enjoying employing different marks and mediums to achieve a sense of place rather than an exact, photographic representation.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I constantly strive to develop my practice and explore different mediums / techniques -I may not use them but it helps me in my work to experiment and explore what the paint can do!
I teach a watercolour class near where I live and also travel often to sketch and paint to further my work.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

Always passionate about art & design, I was lucky enough to have a successful international career designing for such brands as Mulberry, Daniel Hechter, Bamford and Boden, as well as lots of freelance projects. I followed this with creating two award-winning clothing & lifestyle stores for 12 years, until 2014, when life took a different direction.
I’d always painted & sketched and longed for a time when I could devote more time to the practice so this gave me the opportunity to commit to developing my new career (with the odd project on the side).
I fully believe in the all round benefits of engaging with art/arts education at any stage of life and the last 2 years have been spent trying to save our Malvern School of Art / Malvern Hills College.

2020 Broadway Arts Festival Competition Exhibition
2022 The Artist & Leisure Painter Exhibition at Patchings
