This week I shall be exhibiting my pet portraits which I usually do using chalk pastels and pastel pencils. I have always drawn animals from a young age, especially horses as a horse owner myself. I also draw babies and young children using pencil. I was recently commissioned to do the illustrations for a children’s picture book about a naughty pony called Freddie which was a total change of style for me!
Being an artist allows me to express my creative side plus, I hope, bringing good memories to pet owners and parents with a piece of original art. It also allows me to become ‘me’ after years of working and bringing up children.
I am Dee or Denise. This is as near as I get to having two personas!
I am really a good example of a farmhouse table business. I don’t even have a proper studio!
It’s really been a lifetime journey. My first introduction to the artistic process was my Grandfather who painted landscapes and portraits in oils. It is a dream of mine to emulate his holiday plan which was to go to the West Country, paint some pictures of local scenes, exhibit and sell them in the pub and pay for his holiday from the proceeds!
This is my first exhibition so please be kind.
My commissions are available room my website www.denisecullimore.co.uk and through my Facebook page Dee Cullimore- Artist, Illustrator and Children’s Author.
