Details
Inspired by the AONB and ancient woodland surrounding my studio, I draw upon my own reactions to this environment and my observations. Small things like the shape of a leaf or an oak gall on the ground; found objects with a striking shape or colour - a multitude of objects which strike a chord and develop into a shape, a form or some other kind of personal response.
Creating is release and my relaxation. I make predominantly for myself but am happy to work to commission and enjoy bringing clients' ideas and input to life. I also work in the education sector (which is my bread and butter) but creating is the 'jam' or 'honey' to make life a little sweeter.
Ceramic and Glass Artist working in response to the natural environment around me. I enjoy the elemental qualities of clay and glass - sometimes working to directly represent nature, sometimes working with semi-abstract ideas inspired by the colours and forms of the changing seasons.
At present I am not running workshops from my studio or carrying out any teaching but am aiming to revisit this in the future.
A lifelong ceramicist (well since the mid 1980s) I returned to University in 2004 to study English Literature and Fine Art - achieving a BA (Hons) (First Class) in 2007. From then I worked initially as a technician and then a technician and teacher in the Art Department at Malvern College for 10 years and taught at their summer school 'Young Malvern' until it ended around 2012. I have exhibited work locally.
Currently work is available by commission or through open studio events only.
